2009 Iowa Rip's B.A.D Ride II
August 15, 2009

The first Rip's B.A.D. Ride - Bikers Against Diabetes - took place in Southern California nearly 12 years ago thanks to "Rip" Rose, legendary writer and photojournalist for Easyriders magazine.

The  B.A.D. Ride's namesake, Rip lived with diabetes and knew other cyclists with the disease.  After attending the successful Ride to Live event in Atlanta, Rip came to the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and volunteered to start a California ride. Little did he know the huge impact he was about to make on millions of lives - Those who attend the events, as well as those who benefit from the millions of dollars raised for the ADA's research, education and advocacy initiatives.

Rip's love of the biker lifestyle and his personal charisma have infused every event since it's beginning in 1998. Rip Rose died in 2000, but his legacy of respect, integrity, and perseverence to find a cure lives on through Rip's B.A.D. Ride.

His generous spirit lives on as Rip's B.A.D. Ride becomes a national ADA event with Iowa being the latest seventh state allowed to host the event.

Rip's B.A.D. Ride comes to Iowa!

September 27, 2008 brought a new event to Iowa, the inaugural Iowa Rip's B.A.D. Ride. The ride and festival at the Central Iowa Expo near Boone raised nearly $50,000 to benefit the American Diabetes Associaton of Iowa. This year's Iowa
Rip's B.A.D. Ride II promises to be a bigger and better event with a new venue "The Gigglin Goat" in Boone. It's also a good weekend to stay in the Des Moines area and attend the Iowa State Fair

Funds raised for this non-profit event by you and your sponsors will support the research, education and advocacy initiatives of the American Diabetes Association for
both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. No matter how small or large, your generous gift will help improve the lives of the more than 20 million Americans affected by diabetes.

There will be start sites throughout Iowa meeting up at the new festival site, "The Gigglin Goat" in Boone Iowa. Enjoy a full day of riding,  lunch, activities, live concert by Road Show, bike show, silent auction and more.

The B.A.D. Ride Committee is proud to announce that joining us on the ride this year will be the former host of Monster Garage, Brett Wagner AKA "The Big Schwag", current host of the Speed Channel's show Pass Time!
